One of the prime daytime shows is Good Morning America and this time the talk show had Mathew Knowles father of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. During the talk show Mathew shared with Michael Strahan that he found the symptoms as there was a bloodstain on the shirt and said: “I I told my wife and she says, ‘You know I saw a dot of blood on the sheets,’ so I immediately went to my doctor,” Matthew, wed to Gena Charmaine Avery, said. “I got a mammogram and then it was very clear that I had breast cancer.”
Knowles was perplexed and stated: “Of all the things I could get, why would I get this?” he told the GMA host. “From a man’s perspective, I’m thinking, ‘Why me?.”
The results proved that Mathew had a “mutated BRCA2gene,” which can cause him “prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and melanoma.” He further added saying: “The rest of my life I have to be very much aware and conscious and do all of the early detection and constant mammograms, constant prostate exams, constant MRIs for the rest of my life.”
All through this, his greatest support was his family and it was they who reached out as soon as he was diagnosed. To add it he was genetically affected which might pass on to the next generation and to the grandchildren which is quite a risk. He also said that “they handled it as they should. They went and got the test.”
The surgery was performed in July and now he has said that he feels that his strength is regained and that he quit drinking, he shared it with the host. “I wanted to just have a clean bill of health and do things, exercise, meditate…I just look at the world differently.”
Further, he says that he can reach out to people and create awareness of the disease and get them checked on prior. However, breast cancer in men is quite rare and most of them don’t take the step to get them checked.
