Harry Potter Series Set to Premiere in 2026

Happy news for the Hogwarts enthusiasts! J.K. Rowling is involved with a new Harry Potter TV series that will premiere on HBO in 2026. HBO has announced to revisit the Harry Potter legacy through a new television series starring new characters and cast. The show aims to adapt the seven-book series into seven seasons.

It shows that this movie will be based on the entire book and not as a sequel or a prequel like Fantastic Beasts. The series is said to run for a decade and will have all new cast members.

Announcement

Warner Bros. Discovery announced the series at a press event in April 2023. The series was originally announced for Max but was later moved to HBO. 

Storyline

Rowling announces that the creation team aims to honor the original elements of the book and not to eliminate any of the scenes as in the movie. The series will provide deeper insights into the movie’s characters with limited screen time. This includes exploring the lives of lesser-known Hogwarts staff and students.

Cast

The cast of the to-be-released series has not been informed about the original finalised cast yet. However, here are some of the actors who have been considered for roles.

1. Harry, Ron and Hermoine

HBO is casting for the three lead roles and is looking for young actors from the United Kingdom and Ireland who will be 9-11 years old in April 2025.

2. Dumbledore

English actor Mark Rylance is reportedly being considered as Hogwarts headmaster. 

3. Severus Snape

HBO is circling British actor Paapa Essiedu to play one of the hottest TV roles being cast this year.

4. Hagrid

The actor rumored to be playing Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter TV series is none other than Brett Goldstein

5. McGonagall

Sharon Horgan is reported to be in the running for McGonagall.

The Harry Potter series is expected to begin filming in 2025 at Leavesden Studios, the same location where the movies were filmed. A release date has not yet been set, but 2026 or 2027 seems likely.

HBO has stated that they will only confirm details once they have completed their agreements and that they prove that this series will generate a lot of speculation and rumors.
