Classic Blackberry phone to stop working after Jan 4, 2022

Blackberry was once crowned as the king of smartphones and owning it was considered a status symbol. This brand is the pioneer in bringing email services to handheld mobile devices. Despite being popular, BlackBerry couldn’t compete nor withstand the smartphone market. Recently, Blackberry announced that it will discontinue its services for classic devices on Jan 4.

As a reminder, the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1, and earlier versions will no longer be available after January 4, 2022,” BlackBerry said in a statement. The phone will no longer function for data, SMS, phone calls, and 9-1-1 functionality. Blackberry stopped making phones because their brand has been replaced by other companies like Apple and Samsung. In 2016, Blackberry announced that they are transitioning mobile phones to making software.

In September 2020, BlackBerry announced that it would be discontinuing its services but as a token of love, it extended its services. “We thank our many loyal customers and partners over the years and invite you to learn more about how BlackBerry provides intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world,” the company thanked its customers in a new blog post. However, BlackBerry smartphones that operate on the Android operating system will not impact.
