Pairing two stalwarts in a movie are quite inspiring and this had been witnessed in the film “Good Lair” which saw Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen. Though the story is common the performance of both had made it worth a watch.

He portrays the role of Roy Courtnay who exploits wealthy and susceptible women to go cashless. Helen plays the character of Betty McLeish an enticing widow from London whom he plans to deceive.

But she outsmarts him as she never gives space for all his tricks and he is couldn’t match up to her cleverness and they do exceedingly well which outstands Good Liar itself.

Directed by Jeffrey Hatcher the movie is adapted from the book written by Nicholas Searle which has more twists than the film which depicts a dreamy railway station. Both characters act to be loners and frantic for a companion and they come together through an online dating site. They see each other at a restaurant where Ian introduces him as a Professor from Oxford and seems like his mannerism and scholarly refined as a plus than the other eligible bachelors.

Further, she feels great and safe with hi that she asks him to move in with her to her guest room. But his graciousness and fascination later become annoying and her grandson gets doubtful (Russell Tovey) who finds out that he is using his grandma as a victim to exploit her bank account and even transfer money whenever Roy wishes.

The next half of the movie gets audiences going gaga and then thrilled with “Oh no!” after they take you through dark truths and bad moods which makes the story both tricky and expected.
