Racism in the football association is the abuse of players, fans, and officials because of their skin color and nationality.

After so many years, racism is on the rise. Racism of any kind should not have to take place in football or anywhere else. Football is a game which is to be enjoyed by all.

In September, the Belgian star- Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku suffered racist abuse by Cagliari fans.

And he wrote an Instagram post saying, ‘Many players in the last month have suffered from racial abuse. I did it yesterday too. Football is a game to be enjoyed by everyone and we shouldn’t accept any form of discrimination that will put our game in shame. I hope the football federations all over the world react strongly in all cases of discrimination!!!’

He added, ‘Ladies and Gentleman it’s 2019 instead of going forward we’re going backward and I think as players we need to unify and make a statement on this matter to keep the game clean and enjoyable for everyone.’

Earlier this year Referee Joel Mannix was also racially abused. Referee in England football, Joel Mannix shook hands with the club’s chairman and he watched him immediately wiping his palm on his trousers.

As a black referee, Mannix says such racial discriminations are common towards minority officials.

Mannix says, ‘I was like: ‘Wow!’ 2018, it’s still happening. I looked at him while he was wiping his hand and his kind of stopped and didn’t know what to do.’

‘I knew my hands were fresh, I’d just cleaned my hands. I knew there was no residue or dirt on my hands — and then it was a quite funny counting on his team six or seven black players. They’re there to do a job, I wonder if you shake their hands as well.’ Mannix adds.
