McDonald’s fired its CEO Steve Easterbrook on Sunday over allegations of having a consensual affair with a co worker.

McDonald’s has stated that by having a romantic relationship with a co-worker, Eastbroook has violated company policy that ultimately led to his termination. Specific details have not been provided by McD yet. Under the company’s policy, managers are barred from having romantic ties within the office.

Steve Eastbrook had been the fast-food giant’s chief executive since 2015. Ever since then, McDonald’s share has risen 96% to $193.94 as of today.

In a statement relaeased by the company, it read that Eastbrook has “demonstrated poor judgment involving a recent consensual relationship with an employee,” and was “separated from the company” unanimously by its board of directors after he “violated” McDonald’s policy.

Respecting the company’s decision, Eastbrook sent an e-mail to his co-workers, apologizing for his act. He wrote–“Given the values of the company, I agree with the board that it is time for me to move on.”
