Locarno Film Festival Now Opened For Asian and South-East Filmmakers in Their Open Section!

Directors and creators from places like Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, and other Asian countries are getting an opportunity to be a part of the 2020 Locarno Film Festival.

The organization has come up with its ‘Open Doors Hub’ division where budding filmmakers and producers can showcase their projects to the overseas industry to get financial and production association to turn their concepts into films. Further in the Open Door Lab program producers can get online workshops to train themselves with other creators in the field.

The whole event is conducted online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The program for Open Door Hub and Lab will commence from August 6^th and go on till August 11^th. Besides, the Locarno Festival dubbed Locarno 2020 online for the ‘Future of Films’ will start from August 5^th and go on till August 15^th.

It’s a Swiss festival that takes immense pleasure in bringing the upcoming generation of ‘art-house filmmakers’ and have previously had successful filmmakers like Mati Diop from France who was the recipient of Open Doors Grant in 2012 which helped him release his first film Atlantics which grabbed the Grand Prix in Cannes in 2019.

Speaking on the Open Doors director Lili Hinstin said: “In recent years, the Open Doors section has shown itself to be a formidable laboratory for exploring new avenues to support cinema from every latitude.” She continued: “The Locarno Film Festival has been able to tear down more or less visible distribution and cultural barriers, bringing to light new talents and allowing high-value films to be brought to completion.”
