Rapper Eminem was awestruck when invited on stage by his mentor and long-time friend Dr.Dre to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He delivered hits like “My Name Is,” “Forever,” “Not Afraid” and more — while also featuring unexpected guests from Steven Tyler to Ed Sheeran.
Standing at the podium with reading glasses on, the usually reserved rapper from Detroit said,
“I realize what an honor it is right now to be here up here tonight, and what a privilege it is to do the music that I love,” he explained. “Music basically saved my life … I’ll keep this as painless as possible. I’m fucking stuttering and shit. I’m probably not supposed to actually be here tonight because of a couple of reasons. One, I know that I’m a rapper, and this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There’s only a few of us who have been inducted already. Secondly, I almost died from an overdose in 2007, which kind of sucked.”
The Real Slim Shady hip-hop artist was inducted along with Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, and Carly Simon. The ceremony will air on Nov. 19 on HBO.
