Are you a fan of horror films? If yes, then “Shakma” will not disappoint you. It involves the story of a monkey that turns highly aggressive because of an experimental drug.
Sam, played by Christopher Atkins, has a baboon named, “Shakma.” Sorensen, Sam’s professor, portrayed by Roddy McDowall, injects an experimental drug into Shakma. When he goes wild and becomes aggressive, Sorensen instructs Sam to euthanize the animal. However, Sam does not have the heart to do that to Shakma. And, what follows is a lot of chaos and terror.
The character of Shakma is played by a hamadryas baboon called “Typhoon.” Gerry Therrien was the trainer of Typhoon. In 1990, the film was released on VHS. It managed to bring together a cult audience even though it received some negative publicity. Many called the direction “flat,” effects “shoddy,” and humor “weak.” However, many others found the film endearing and highly humorous.
Amanda Wyss, who played a major role in the movie, was, in reality, extremely scared of Typhoon!
So, folks! If you are in the mood to watch a movie full of terror, with a sprinkle of humor here and there, Shakma is your best bet. Cast away your worries, forget your troubles, and bid adieu to your woes because you are going to witness something astounding unravel on the screen for the next couple of hours by watching Shakma! And, don’t forget to have a bowl of popcorn (or any favorite snack) handy!
