Ready for a Nostalgic Surprise? Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Exposed!

As a result of Disney’s usual way of transforming animated movies into real ones, we have the famous “Lilo and Stitch” this time. Only after a few years, maybe a quarter-century after the original movie came out, the movie is set to release in a few months. 

As per the Hollywood Reporter, this eccentric live-action movie was in the works in February 2018, but not many details were revealed at that time. Years later, its leads have been announced.

In August 2024, Disney revealed the first look and the release date for the remake. On Instagram Disney wrote, “Experiment 626 has entered the chat! The live-action #LiloAndStitch is coming only to theaters in Summer 2025!”

Synopsis

On a short note, this movie tells the story of a cute young girl, with a koala-dog like alien named “Stitch” who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction, but becomes her companion for life. The movie explores the adventures of the two fellows’ friendship and how they become a family in a world of chaos.  

Cast

Zach Galifianakis was the first to join the cast in February 2023. On May 24, Maia Kealoha (Aged seven) joined the squad, as the main protagonist “Lilo.” 

She stated, “When I found out I was going to be Lilo, my jaw literally dropped and I couldn’t even believe it.” “I rang my dad and I said, ‘I did it! I’m Lilo! I’m Lilo!’ And then they grabbed me and we jumped up and down.”

Later, Agudong joined the cast as Nani, Lilo’s sister, while the newcomer Kahiau Machado will be playing David Kawena. 

Release date

Disney stated that the movie will make its theatrical release on May 23, 2025.
