Louisiana Plane Crash Claims 5 lives

A small plane crashed this Saturday taking the lives of five people and one survivor. The small plane reportedly heading towards Atlanta for a college football playoff semifinal ended up crashing near Lafayette Regional Airport in Louisiana. Officials confirmed that five people died and a sixth person on board survived the crash, which occurred around 9:22 a.m. CT, Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit Benoit said in a news conference.

Casualties:

Ian E. Biggs, the plane’s pilot, age 51

Robert Vaughn Crisp II, age 59

Carley Ann McCord, age 30

Gretchen D. Vincent,age 51

Michael Walker Vincent, 15

According to the fire department, one injured passenger, Stephen Wade Berzas, 37, remains in the hospital.

“We are devastated by the loss of such an amazing talent and valued member of our WDSU family,” said WDSU President and General Manager Joel Vilmenay. “Carley’s passion for sports journalism and her deep knowledge of Louisiana sports, from high school to the professional ranks, made her an exceptional journalist.

“As we reflect on her impressive body of work, we offer our deepest condolences to her family.”

“Words cannot express the tremendous amount of sorrow our entire staff holds for Carley and her family,” said WDSU News Director Akili Franklin. “She was an extraordinary woman and a talented reporter. We offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends.”
