F9 aka Fast and Furious 9 holds the top position in the domestic box office with a whopping $70 million in its opening weekend! The action movie grossed over $400 million worldwide. Though the box office hasn’t fully recovered from the pandemic, at least one studio has great reason to celebrate this Fourth of July Weekend.

The box office boost happened because of three movies including “The Boss Baby: Family Business,” (kids’ friendly), the satirical comedy “Zola,” and the thriller “The Forever Purge.”

Despite three movie releases, F9 notched the top spot on the box office charts. “Fast and Furious” saga grossed $24 million over the weekend. The movie should end Monday’s holiday with a whopping $32.7 million that could increase its domestic tally to $125.8 million.

It wasn’t surprising that the “Fast & Furious” sequel “F9” held first place in its second weekend in the North American theaters. The movie earned an estimated $24 over the weekend and is expected to make $125.8 million domestically.

In second place, the Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s “Boss Baby” sequel exceeded its expectations and earned $17.3 million over the weekend and $23.1 million including Monday. The animated film featured Amityville-born and Massapequa-raised Alec Baldwin voicing the worldly toddler.
In third place, the American action horror film “The Forever Purge,” is predicted to gross $12.8 million in ticket sales on Sunday and earn $15.9 million on a four-day weekend. The fun part is these three films have different genres with different audiences. “The Boss Baby 2” was for 12 and under and “The Forever Purge” was for 18 to 34.
