Tuesday morning was a delight for moviegoers as The Academy announced its 94th Oscar nomination list. This prestigious event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 27th. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan, the 2022 Oscar Nomination event witnessed some great as well as unexpected moments.
Netflix’s critically acclaimed “Power of the Dog” dominated the race with 12 nominations and also made its place in all major categories including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
It was shortly followed by Dennis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated “Dune” with 10 nominations, the most expected being Hans Zimmer nominated for Best Original Score. Sadly, the Captain of the (space)ship, Dennis Villeneuve was snubbed from the Oscar race. West Side Story and Belfast are next in line with seven nominations.
This year’s Academy Awards will have additional viewership as Marvel Studios has officially entered the race. Two of the Studios’ biggest hits, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, and “Spiderman: No Way Home” are nominated for Best Visual Effects.
While fan-beloved Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Garfield land on their second nomination for Best Actor, the Best Actress category is power-packed with stellar actresses like Olivia Coleman and Nicole Kidman.
However, it was shocking that House of Gucci star Lady Gaga was nowhere to be found on the nomination list for Best Actress and is considered to be one of the biggest snubs of this year’s Academy Awards.
