The Good Morning Britain host’s husband who was hospitalized in March after getting affected by COVID-19 went to coma.
But now Kate has said that her 52 yr old husband is gaining consciousness gradually and recently opened his eyes.
Speaking to Hello! she said: ‘We’re keeping positive and doing everything we can to bring him round. The children and I communicate with him every day on FaceTime, while a nurse holds his iPad.’
‘I really believe he can hear. When the medical staff says: “Good morning, Derek”, he sometimes opens his eyes. We and the doctors are doing everything we can so that he can start to recover.’
The 53 yr old host also said that the medical team has requested not to hold onto her while waiting for Derek’s health condition. The NHS doctors have warned that Derek’s health status may continue ‘for years’ yet also have given hopes that he might start to hear as well.
Kate said: ‘They’ve told me that I need to go back to work and create a routine in our lives again.’
‘The children and Derek are all I’ve thought about and they’re the most important people in my life, but I must create structure and normality for the children, to clean the bath, put the plates in the dishwasher, and tidy the house.’
She also continued saying that she needs to go back to work in order to ‘provide for the children’ and ‘make them feel that the light hasn’t gone out of their lives while remaining hopeful for the future.’
Doctors also say that is quite difficult for Derek to discharge from the hospital by September as it his son Billy starts his secondary school.
