Jujutsu Kaisen started off as a Weekly Shonen Jump manga in 2018. The manga soon became quite popular among readers, thanks to its brilliant concept building around the present world and the fascinating characters. With its gaining popularity, the manga was adapted to anime and the first episode of Jujutsu Kaisen aired in 2020.

The plot, the worldbuilding, the crazy sense of fashion (we bet you would’ve certainly admired Kento Nanami’s fashion sense at some point in the manga or anime), and the twists and cliffhangers, gave everything a viewer needed to like the anime. With the anime’s Season 2 coming this July, let’s brush up on the ranking system among sorcerers in the jujutsu world.

The sorcerer ranking system in Jujutsu Kaisen

Cursed energy serves as the base of evaluation when we talk about ranking among sorcerers. This energy, manifested from a human’s negative emotions, is the source to exorcize a cursed spirit. Notably, cursed spirits are formed from human’s negative emotions.

With the help of cursed energy, jujutsu sorcerers can see, fight and exorcize curses. You might wonder what people without cursed energy would do. People without cursed energy can still be sorcerers.

They use glasses with cursed energy to even see curses (yes, they cannot see curses with the naked eye). These sorcerers have weapons imbued with cursed energy in their possession to eliminate these curses. That’s why Maki always wears glasses and uses an array of weapons against the curses she faces.

Jujutsu sorcerers are ranked by “Grades,” a term that analyzes their strength, cursed energy, and their ability to use it. Here are the Grades and the sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen, from highest to lowest. Also, let’s discuss the Special Grade sorcerers in a separate post because it’s super exciting!
