The cat is (finally) out of the bag! Following leaked information, HBO and Naughty Dog confirmed that its highly-anticipated show, The Last of Us will premiere early next year, on January 15 next year.

The first season of the spine-chilling adaptation based on the acclaimed video game contains 10 episodes, covering the story arc of The Last of Us’ first installation.

The Last of Us is the live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s praised video game under the same name, that takes place in the post-apocalyptic world of zombies where Joel, the protagonist with a tragic past, is hired to take Ellie, a teenage girl out of a quarantine zone. The two characters together face the most savage, heartwarming, and heartbreaking journey throughout the game.

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones actress Bella Ramsey portray the main characters, Joel and Ellie, respectively. It is notable that Pascal also starred in Game of Thrones, but the duo’s characters never met in the series.

Naughty Dogs’ The Last of Us’ voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, Joel and Ellie respectively, are rumored to have roles in the upcoming series.

Fans are a bit hesitant about how the live-action adaptations could deliver the originality of the game, after how Naughty Dog’s other major game Uncharted turned out. Uncharted was a widely acclaimed video game franchise but the movie, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg delivered the elements poorly, and fans were disappointed on how their favorite game turned out. Despite the criticism, Uncharted was a global box-office hit.

Fans would get their answer for The Last of Us on January 15, 2023.
