It’s Halle Berry who created speculations in the social media for showing interest to play a transgender male role in an upcoming movie. Also, she has been in hot water for misgendering the role.
The stir began when she did a live interview on Instagram with hairstylist Christin Brown. In the interview, the star stated that she is on the go to do a trans character stating that it is ‘a story where the woman’s a trans character, so she is a woman that transitioned into a man. She is a character in a project I love, which I might be doing. This project got pitched to me right when I was on the brink of making Bruised and making my directorial debut and I so was in the mindset of getting in the body to play that… But this got pitched to me, and I thought, after I do this movie, that’s the character I’m going to play.’

She also said that she has the desire to ‘deep diving’ into ‘that world’ which indirectly pointed to the trans community.
She went on to call them ‘she’ and said that she has a major ‘female story’ to say.
And the toughest part was to chop off all her hair. But this did not go well with some of the followers as they went crazy for Halle Berry getting the character at the start.
Further few thought that the role of a transgender should be portrayed by a transgender actor and not Berry.
As everything backfired she asked sorry and said: ‘As a cis woman, I understand now that I shouldn’t have considered the role, and the transgender community should have the opportunity to tell their own stories. I’m grateful for the guidance and the critical conversation over the past days and I’ll continue to listen, educate, and learn from this mistake. I vow to be an ally and use my voice to promote better representation onscreen, both in front of and behind the camera.’
