What was meant as a light-hearted victory tweet got Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene into a legal fight with rapper and music producer Dr.Dre.
Republican Ms. Greene used Dre’s Still D.R.E. in the background of a video she posted to Twitter. In the now-deleted video, Greene takes a victory lap after helping Republican Kevin McCarthy get through as House Speaker on his 15th try.
This was enough for Dre to serve a cease and desist over Greene for her use of his song.
“One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country,” said the letter. It’s possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to really have spent much time on.”
Greene clapped back saying, “While I appreciate the creative chord progression, I would never play your words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs.”
