Nick Carter is making headlines again—and not for his music.
A woman named Laura Penly has filed a lawsuit accusing the pop singer of sexual assault and claims the alleged encounter led to her contracting sexually transmitted infections, which she says ultimately caused her cervical cancer, according to People magazine.
The alleged incidents date back to 2004, when Penly says she was around 19 years old and had begun a “sexually intimate relationship” with the then-rising boy band heartthrob. According to the lawsuit, the pair would meet up in Los Angeles every few weeks between December 2004 and February 2005.
Penly claims the encounters were consensual at first, but things allegedly took a dark turn during a visit to Carter’s Hollywood apartment. She says she asked him to wear protection, but he refused—reassuring her that he was “clean.” Penly also claims she had never had unprotected sex before their encounter.
The lawsuit details an incident where Penly allegedly visited Carter just to watch movies, but was told she was there “only to have sex.” She says Carter then sexually assaulted her despite her saying “no” multiple times, and once again did not use protection. A few months later, Penly claims Carter apologized, but another visit allegedly resulted in a second assault.
Carter’s legal team has denied all allegations.
Penly also says that after testifying at a deposition, she was harassed by Nick Carter’s fans. The lawsuit alleges she was told to keep the incident a secret, being warned that “no one would believe her.”
The suit seeks damages over $15,000 and demands a jury trial, citing Carter’s “willful and conscious disregard” for her safety.
This isn’t the first time Carter has faced serious allegations—and the story is still developing.
We will keep you posted with updates as they unfold.
