Inspiring Sibling Story – Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal claims that watching his sister Maggie perform on stage as a child motivated him to pursue acting.

Maggie began her career as a teenager with small roles in several of her father, Stephen Gyllenhaal’s films, Jake told Entertainment Tonight. “Ever since I saw my sister act… I saw her on stage and thought, ‘That looks like a whole lot of fun. Then I tried my hand at it and it felt really natural. It felt really right and I enjoyed it so much…

“I think I was about six or seven years old. And then it’s just been like that forever,” Jake added.

Born into a talented family, Jake Gyllenhaal’s mother, Naomi Foner, is a screenwriter, and his father, Stephen, is a director. You might also be familiar with Maggie Gyllenhaal, his gifted sister, whose most well-known films include, The Kindergarten Teacher, Adaptation, The Dark Knight, and others. Knowing how gifted his older sister is, the Road House actor gushed about how she inspired him in his acting career.

Maggie and Jake have helped each other through their different pursuits as they have each carved themselves successful careers in Hollywood, both receiving nominations for their own Academy Awards. The pair have supported one another on red carpets and during premieres.

Jake has nothing but strong sibling love for his older sister, as he told The Hollywood Reporter that he gets emotional just talking about their dynamics. There’s nothing like sibling love to give you all the feels.
