Salma Hayek is about to shake things up, and she’s not holding back! In a revealing interview with Marie Claire, the iconic actress spilled the tea on her latest venture: writing and directing her own feature film!
“It’s meaningful. It has a great rhythm. It’s full of surprises to the very end,” Hayek teased, keeping the plot tightly under wraps. But one thing’s for sure: after 25 years of producing for others, she’s ready to take the reins. “I think I’ve earned the right,” she declared, and we couldn’t agree more!
But Hayek’s passion doesn’t stop behind the camera. She’s also calling out Hollywood’s long-standing ageism problem, particularly when it comes to women. “There was a time when I was the sexy girl, but thank God age came and gave me the ability to expand to other territories. Although I’m still sexy and I embrace it,” she stated. “Another calling that I have is to remind everyone in any department that women are not disposable after a certain age. We should battle that with all we’ve got.”
And she didn’t stop there! Hayek also pointed out the persistent gender bias in the industry. “[When a film is successful] the credit goes to the man. The girl is just the girl. I do have an audience and they go see me. But I’ve never gotten credit for the audience I bring into the cinema.” Ouch! Talk about calling out the double standards!
Adding another layer of intrigue, Hayek revealed her staunch resistance to the rise of artificial intelligence. “It takes away your intelligence because the brain grows lazy,” she argued, admitting she doesn’t even own a computer! “I write everything by hand. I have papers everywhere. I barely touch the phone. They cannot profile me. I don’t buy online. I don’t order food online. The artificial intelligence doesn’t know me.”
Hayek’s old-school approach is refreshing in a world dominated by technology, and her powerful voice is a much-needed force for change in Hollywood. From her upcoming directorial debut to her stance against ageism and AI, Salma Hayek is proving she’s a force to be reckoned with. Stay tuned, because this is just the beginning!
