As of now, Andrew Garfield is not set to appear in Spider-Man 4, marking a surprising twist for fans who were hopeful for his return.

Garfield, who portrayed the iconic web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man series (2012 and 2014), gained renewed popularity after his cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

“I’m gonna disappoint you,” Garfield told GQ in an interview published on Thursday, Jan. 2, when asked about rumors that he would appear in a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland.

“Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”

Garfield made this remark in reference to his repeated denials of his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home prior to the film’s 2021 release.

Tobey Maguire also reprised his role as Spidey in the multiverse-spanning Marvel epic, alongside Garfield, who returned as the Peter Parker he portrayed in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).

However, Garfield has not completely ruled out working on another major franchise. He noted that he would consider returning to such a project “if it felt in line with my soul and was going to be fun.” He added humorously, “At some point, I might have five children, and I’ll need to start saving money for their education or something.”

Spider-Man 4, directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, is set to release on July 24, 2026. Coming just two months after Avengers: Doomsday, 2026 is shaping up to be a blockbuster year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Despite his absence from Spider-Man 4, Garfield’s legacy as Spider-Man will live on through his heartfelt and memorable portrayal, leaving fans with plenty to love about his time as the web-slinger.
