The Departed” is a 2006 movie in which the cast includes a lot of renowned actors. Some of them are Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, and Alec Baldwin. But are you aware of the fact that Mark Wahlberg was pissed about a few things in this Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece? Let’s discuss certain situations where Wahlberg didn’t feel comfortable while doing “The Departed.”

What Issues Did Mark Wahlberg Face?

Wahlberg appeared in the March 14 episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, where he stated that he had faced some issues while acting as Sergeant Dignam in “The Departed.” He added, “But look, it all worked out in the end. Originally, I was supposed to play another part.”

Wahlberg had the movie, “Invincible,” lined up right after he finished shooting for “The Departed.” For “Invincible,” he had to grow his hair, and so, he had hair extensions put on. However, when he reached the set of “The Departed,” he was asked to get rid of the extensions. But Wahlberg didn’t want to do that because it had taken around 8 hours for people to put in those extensions for his role in “Invincible!”

Added to that, Wahlberg had meant to finish “The Departed” in 5 weeks, which did not happen. Irrespective of the problems he dealt with, Wahlberg felt that his role in “The Departed” was a good one. His exact words about the film were, “But, you know, ultimately, I think when I read that particular role, I was like, ‘OK, this is a good role. This is an opportunity for me to really go off and have some fun.’ ”

How Was Wahlberg’s Role Seen?

Mark Wahlberg was nominated for the Academy Award for playing Sergeant Dignam. It has been the only Best Supporting Actor nomination for Wahlberg. But he lost it to Alan Arkin, who won the Oscar for “Little Miss Sunshine.” “The Departed” won 4 Oscars at the 79th Academy Awards, including the ones for Best Director and Best Picture.

Irrespective of the challenges Wahlberg experienced, he won several accolades for his role. As with anything in life, the actor has had his bit of both good and bad in “The Departed.”
