Jimmy Fallon, the American comedian is calling on for a helping hand from Elon Musk. The actor wants to announce that he is still alive and well. On Tuesday, Nov 15, the hashtag #RIPJimmyFallon started trending on social media Twitter.
After a post appearing to be from ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ reading, “It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of late night legend, husband, and father of two, Jimmy Fallon. 1923-2022,” the hashtag #RIPJimmyFallon went on swirl on the Twitter.
Despite the wrong birth date the post reads, 1923 rather than the actual birth year to be 1974, 31,000 tweets using the hashtag started circulating the next day. Many started paying tribute to the 48-year-old comedian.
Jimmy seeks help from the new owner of Twitter, writing, “Elon, can you fix this? #RIPJimmyFallon.”
Musk replied saying, “Fix what?” unaware of the trending death hoax hashtag. After a while, he replied again, “Wait a second, how do we know you’re not an alien body snatcher pretending to be Jimmy!? Say something that only the real Jimmy would say …”
Despite the knowledge that the post was a false one, the hashtag remains. After the new changes in the verification system for the ‘blue tick’, much chaos is spreading on the internet. Most celebrities like singer Sara Bareilles, actor Mick Foley, Caryn Elaine Johnson(Whoopi), and model Gigi have already left the platform.
