Amber Heard has to pay her ex-husband Johnny Depp $1 million in order to settle the defamation lawsuit against her. The Aquaman actress was initially ordered by the Virginia court to pay $8.35 million to the Pirates of the Caribbean star. 

Johnny Depp’s attorneys have previously said that it was “never about the money” for him. Now that Heard has agreed to pay $1 million, Depp’s attorneys said that he would donate the money to charity.

Amber Heard said she had “lost faith in the American legal system,” and that the settlement is a way to “emancipate” herself from their marriage.

Depp and Heard were involved in a very public trial a few months back where they accused each other of domestic violence. Depp filed a $50 million defamation claim against Heard in March 2019 and a six-week trial took place in 2022. Depp won the lawsuit.

‘The Pirates Of The Caribbean fam’ Johnny Depp filed an appeal against his ex-wife Amber Heard on Wednesday, Nov 2 in the Virginia Court. The versatile actor called off the $2 million judgment to be “ erroneous.” 

The dramatic divorce story is known worldwide. After a six-month trial, the verdict came to be in favor of the ‘Charlie the Chocolate Factory’ actor. Awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages making it a total of $15 million. Amber was also awarded a small amount of $2 million comparatively.

In the documents filed in Virginia Court, Depp says the jury’s judgment in favor of Amber’s $2 million is incorrect. The appeal also covers Johnny’s reasoning that “The judgment in Ms. Heard’s favor on that lone statement is erroneous.” 

The statement (defaming Amber by disclosing to the media that she had lied during the fight between them)  was by Adam Waldman, one of Johnny’s attorneys during the time of trial stating“So Amber and her friends spilled a little wine and roughed the place up, got their stories straight under the direction of a lawyer and publicist, and then placed a second call to 911.”

It is to be noted that Amber had previously said ‘NO’ to a huge amount of $16 million settlement offer in 2016.

And No, it isn’t Camille Vasquez. 59-year-old Depp is dating 37-year-old UK lawyer Joelle Rich, a partner at a law firm that represented him. Ms.Rich represented him in the 2020 defamation trial against a British tabloid for branding him a “wife-beater”. Even though the pair lost the trial they seem to have won in, well, love!

Ms.Rich, a mother of two, is understood to be going through a divorce. She and Depp regularly arrived at the High Court in a car together during the three-week trial. This seems to have been enough time for them to know each other.

Sources close to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor say that the pair is the “real deal” and that “It’s serious between them.” So much so that Ms.Rich was in the courtroom in Virginia to show her “support” for the Depp in the John C. Depp, II v. Amber Laura Heard case! She was not part of Depp’s legal team but was seen hugging Camille Vasquez when they won.

Hoping the couple would last longer than their failed trial.
