Joey McFarland, one of the producers of Will Smith’s new movie ‘Emancipation’ apologized for bringing the photo of the real inspiration behind the expected movie. During the red carpet interview at the premiere of ‘Emancipation,’ McFarland brought a photograph of ‘Whipped Peter.’ he carried the original photo from 1863.
In the interview with Variety during the premiere, Joey McFarland said, “I have the photo. This is the original photograph from 1863. I wanted a piece of Peter to be here tonight,”
he continued“Sadly to say, so many artifacts and photographs have not been preserved or curated or respected. And I took it upon myself to curate and build a collection for future generations.”
The real name of the person in the photo was Gordon. The photo was taken during the uniform fitting to join the Union army. The photo got spread very widely throughout the world, at that time, which exposed the brutal nature of slavery to the U.S. population during the time.
In the apology, the producer clarified noting, “I wholeheartedly apologize to everyone I have offended by bringing a photograph of Peter to the Emancipation premiere. My intent was to honor this remarkable man and to remind the general public that his image not only brought about change in 1863 but still resonates and promotes change today.”
The movie ‘Emancipation’ is based on Gordan’s escape from slavery, Will Smith stars in the film and is directed by Antoine Fuqua.

Yup, you heard it right! Will Smith paid a huge price as a consequence for slapping comedian andWill Smith’s ‘Emancipation’ producer McFarland apologizes for ‘Whipped Peter’ Pic host Chris Rock on stage. The Academy Awards (Oscars) banned Will Smith from entering Oscars or any shows hosted by The Academy for a decade. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science condemned Will’s behavior calling it “unacceptable and harmful” in an official statement.

All that it took for Will Smith to rage from a laughing celebrity to a furious husband was a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Chris Rock must’ve paid a huge backlash by messing up with Will Smith with his joke. Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith has been vocal about her medical condition called alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that took a toll on her health and hair loss. We all can understand how hard this must be for Will Smith and his family.
Unfortunately, Chris Rock made a thoughtless joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head while announcing an award for best documentary on the Oscar stage. He joked, “Jada I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”
It was quite obvious how Pinkett Smith got hurt by this comment while she rolled her eyes. The audience too didn’t seem to appreciate the joke as Chris Rock tried to cover the embarrassment by saying “That was a nice one.” But it didn’t take a second for her husband Will Smith who sat right next to her to get up from his seat and walk towards the stage. While Rock laughed and said “Oh uh” to see Will closing towards him, he received a rock-hard slap from Will Smith that sent the whole stadium to silence.
Though he got back to his seat, Will Smith shouted at Chris Rock twice to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. He said, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth. Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!”
Roughly after 45 minutes, Will Smith got back on stage to receive the award for best actor and apologized to the Academy and fellow nominees for the incident but not to Chirs Rock. He was in tears all through his acceptance speech as he said,
“Thank you for this moment. I’m thinking on behalf of Richard and the entire William family.
“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world. I want to apologize to Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I am not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
He concluded his speech by saying “Thank you. I hope the Academy invites me back.”
What’s said and done is done. Let’s check out how some celebrities reacted to this incident on Twitter,
