Annie Murphy opens up about her mental health that she has experienced for almost a year and a half. In a recent interview, the actress says that she was diagnosed with depression and has been working so hard to come out of it.

Murphy, 34 was first diagnosed with depression in March 2020, at the start of the COVID pandemic. The Emmy award winner was scheduled to start shooting for “Kevin Can F** himself” but due to the COVID pandemic, the shoot was postponed so she flew to Canada to stay with her parents. Her mother immediately noticed her depression.”My mom was like, ‘You’re crying 12 times a day hysterically, to the point where your teeth are chattering. That’s not normal,” says murphy.

Murphy says it’s good that her shooting was postponed as she was not mentally prepared to take it and she needed that time to take care of herself. She also added that people might not take her mental health issues seriously just because she’s rich and famous. “A lot of people are going to think that I sound like I’m playing a tiny violin for myself,” she said. “‘Oh, you’re rich and famous. Why the f— are you sad? You have nothing to be sad about. But I’m not going to post photos of me covered in my snot, lying on the floor, unable to get up. I don’t want people to have to see that.” she said. Due to lockdown, she had time to address depression and figure out things before her new show began.

Therapy sessions and antidepressants played a major role in improving Murphy’s mental state. She now suggests her family and friends take counseling as a healing tool. “Well, to be honest, my friends are” really struggling “or” taking drugs. Take drugs! I don’t have to take medicine all the time, but it really really saved my life in the sense that I was able to be a functional person, not a functional person.” says the Emmy award winner.
