Taylor, a pre-eminent historian on 19th and 20th century European diplomacy, reached a wide audience through his lectures on television.Several of his books, including The Struggle for Mastery in Europe 1848–1918 (1954) and English History 1914–1945 (1965) are considered masterpieces.
