Young climate activists Greta Thunberg and Vannesa Nakate chastised world leaders for not following the climate change promises.

At the Youth4Climate summit in Milan, the 18-year-old Swedish environmental activist accused world leaders of failing to follow the promises to address the climate change emergency. Throughout her speech, the teen activist describes the “empty promises” of the politicians as “blah, blah, blah.”

“Build back better. Blah, blah, blah. Green economy. Blah blah blah. Net-zero by 2050. Blah, blah, blah. This is all we hear from our so-called leaders. Words that sound great but so far have not led to action. Our hopes and ambitions drown in their empty promises.”

Vannesa Nakate, a 24-year-old climate justice activist from Uganda, said pledges of €100 billion a year to help countries have not been materialized. Wildfires in California and Greece and floods in Germany and Belgium show that “Loss and damage are now possible everywhere.” Greta Thunberg comforted Vanessa Nakate as she was in tears after her emotional speech.

The Youth4Climate was a three-day summit, and the Italian Ministry hosted it for the environment, land, and sea. Nearly four hundred young climate activists from 180 countries were invited. Climate change is on the rise, and human activity is one of the underlying causes. Greta’s speech has become controversial on social media, and many are not impressed with the phrase “blah blah blah. However, few people say that the speech was a great step taken by the teen activist.
