Lionel Richie and Walt Disney have come together to make a musical film from him as per reports.
Titled as ‘All Night Long’ after his 1983 hit the movie will be produced by Lionel along with his manager Bruce Eskowitz and Dana Brunetti from (Fifty Shades of Grey, Captain Phillips) and Matt DelPiano via their production Cavalry Media.
The screenplay will be penned by Pete Chiarelli who wrote movies like ‘Crazy Rich Asians and Now You See Me 2.’ And Disney has chosen the project this year.
Disney has been planning to screen at theatres believing to make profits as per the trend and minds of the audience and how they welcome musicals at the box office.
In the past biographies like Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody were received well by the audience and it eventually becomes a sensational hit and even grabbed Oscars. Rhapsody made whopping returns of $903 million across the globe and made its actor Rami Malek win an Oscar.
Though this film is not a biopic it is more like movies like Mamma Mia, which was based on the music of the musical band Abba. The movie was a West End and Broadway musical prior to making it a film in 2008 which saw Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan.
Lionel who had enough albums topping the billboard charts through his band ‘The Commodores’ were one of the top-notch musicians in the 80’s with albums like “All Night Long,” and “Hello” and “Say You, Say Me” to “Endless Love” and “Dancing on the Ceiling.”
He is said to have sold above 90 million records and was the recipient of Grammy four times and he also co-penned the album “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson.
