The Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is doing rounds now as one of the prominent television stars, producer for her own series: “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.” where she stares as well.
The series will be streamed on the popular streaming platform Netflix with just 4 parts. A businesswoman, and now a self-made millionaire here is the sneak of her career.
Secret Actor
Spending her childhood in Alabama, Octavia was aspiring to be an actor but her mom advised her to take the practical side. So she landed up getting a job in the casting department for local movies. She finally gathered the courage to go for an audition for the movie “A Time to Kill” Though she desired to do an angry bystander role she ended doing nurse for Sandra Bullock as the director Joel Schumacher felt she was “too sweet” for the role.
Television
From there Octavia entered Hollywood in 1996 and started grabbing scenes for smaller roles in movies like “Coach Carter, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” and so on.
The Big Break
Octavia got her breakthrough through the character Minny for the movie which is based on the best-selling novel “The Help.” The role garnered her with Oscars and post that she was nominated again for two of her roles as scientist Dorothy Vaughan in “Hidden Figures” 2016 and “The Shape of Water” in 2017 where she portrayed as a cleaning woman in a government lab.
All these movies were set back in 1960 and Octavia once stated funnily that: “I played a maid, then a scientist, then a cleaning woman at a science lab.” But her roles had shown variations in her acting skills.
Besides acting, she also presented the “Saturday Night Live” in 2017 which was once her nightmare to host. But to her surprise, she was a pro in hosting the show.
