The most prominent writer and librettist and recipient of 5 Tony awards through his productions of Kiss of the Spider-Woman, Master Class, Ragtime and Love! Valor! Compassion!, has now passed away affected by Corona Virus.

The 81 yr old playwright death was confirmed on Tuesday at a healthcare center in Sarasota, Florida by publicist Matt Polk. Besides, Terrence was said to have lung cancer back in 1990 and he had to lose almost parts of both his lungs. From then he is said to have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He had produced 25 broadways, 40 plays, 10 musicals, and his work spoke volumes about his writing in genres of comedy and drama. Sources stated that: “He probes his characters’ deepest fears — of illness, intimacy, betrayal or death — while making them manageable for all audiences, leavening the dread with his rat-a-tat dialogue and well-timed jokes.”

He had also depicted the lives of Gay men and LGBTQ portrayals in his plays when LGBTQ culture was just emerging.

Terrence had bagged his first Tony in 1993 for Kiss of the Spider Woman and went on to receive for Love! Valor! Compassion!, in 1995 and Master Class in 1996 and Ragtime in 1998.

Further, he was chosen for Pulitzer Prize for his play A Perfect Ganesh in 1994 and in 2019 he received the “Tony for Lifetime Achievement” where he stated that: “I love being a playwright. The hours are flexible, and you don’t have to wear a tie — unless you’re invited to the Tonys.”

He was a great inspiration to many like James Coco, Doris Roberts, John Glover, Nathan Lane, Tyne Daly, F. Murray Abraham, Chita Rivera, Zoe Caldwell, Christine Baranski, Joe Mantello, and Audra McDonald.
