Philippines Warned of Deadly Volcanic Eruption, Airports Shut

Just a few days into 2020 and the world is experiencing disasters like never before. Right after the Australian bushfires, it is now Philipines that has been tagged as a hazardous zone because of the deadly volcanic eruption that took place a few kilometers away from the country’s capital, Manila. The Taal volcano situated in Tagaytay, a popular tourist destination, erupted violently on Sunday polluting the air with smoke and ash.

Immediate steps were taken by the government to evacuate nearly 8,000 residents to safer places nearby. The Philippine Institute of Volcano and Seismology has said that there might soon be a more hazardous eruption and that the danger level has been raised from 3 to 4. People around the area also witnessed lava gushing out of the volcano followed by a terrific volcanic thunder.

Manila’s international airport has been shut down due to the eruption and all flights entering or leaving the capital have been canceled. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has announced that due to low visibility and volcanic ash around the airport, both domestic and international flights will be grounded until further notice. Normal life has been affected tremendously since yesterday as motorists and people riding cars can hardly make it to their destination in the midst of flying dust and ash.

The Taal volcano, situated in the province of Batangas has had 34 eruptions in total with the last one in 1977.
