Meat Loaf, the rockstar who sold more than 100 million albums, passed away at age 74. Loved by millions for his bombastic breakout album ‘Bat Out of Hell’ sold more than 40 million copies, and still remains one of the best-selling releases of all time.

Meat Loaf, born Marvin Lee Aday was also known for hits like I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) and Dead Ringer For Love. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, but he is said to have had numerous health problems over the years.

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda, and close friends,” his family wrote in a Facebook statement.

Meat Loaf was a humble person who did not want to get identified as a star. “I consider myself just another human being with a different job as a plumber,” he had said in an interview with Dan Rather. Meat Loaf was born in Texas. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father was a police officer. After his mother’s death, he came to Los Angeles and created the band ‘Meat Soal Loaf’. He later changed his name from Michael Lee Aday and took his stage name ‘Meat Loaf’ from his childhood nickname. Friends, Fans, and the music industry are mourning the loss of the heavyweight rock superstar.
